Search Bourbon County Inmate Records

Bourbon County inmate records begin with the sheriff's jail roster, which lists people held in county custody and recent releases. A Bourbon County jail roster search can show booking details, charge text, bond information, and booking photos when the sheriff publishes them. The roster is only one custody source. County jail records are different from state prison records, federal prison records, immigration detention records, and court case records. To look up Bourbon County inmates with fewer missed results, use the current roster first, then check release listings, official custody-notification tools, and the correct state or federal locator when a person is not in the county jail.

Bourbon County Jail Roster

The primary online source for Bourbon County inmate records is the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office roster gateway. It leads to two official lists: current inmates and people released from the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office Kansas Detention Center within the last 48 hours. The sheriff's disclaimer says the information is collected from public sources and maintained for convenience, but it cannot be certified as accurate or current. That warning matters when bond, charges, or case numbers are being used for court, release, or family decisions.

The current roster is the county jail lookup. It covers adults booked or held by the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office, Fort Scott Municipal, Kansas DOC warrant or hold entries, and other agency holds shown by the roster. It does not replace Kansas court records after a filing, Kansas Department of Corrections records after a sentence and transfer, the federal Bureau of Prisons locator, or ICE detainee lookup. If a name is not on the current list, the person may have been released, moved, booked under a different spelling, held outside the county, or not yet processed into the public view.

The official roster screen is directly matched in the image manifest. The sheriff's roster disclaimer page shows the choice between current custody and recent release records.

Bourbon County inmate records roster gateway

That gateway is the clean starting point because it separates people now in jail from people listed only because they left custody recently.

Use Bourbon County Inmate Search

The roster works best when the search starts broadly. Names may appear in capital letters, charges may use short labels, and the public profile may omit court case numbers. The sheriff also states that bail and charge information can change after court appearances. When release timing, bond posting, or case routing matters, use the roster as a lead and confirm through the jail phone before acting.

  1. Open the official roster gateway and choose Current Inmates for a person believed to be in the Bourbon County jail.
  2. Use Search By Name when the spelling is known, or choose Show All and sort newest to oldest if the arrest may be recent.
  3. Review list entries for the photo thumbnail, name, booking number, age, booking date, charge text, bond amount, and profile link.
  4. Open View Profile for the larger public profile and compare the arresting agency, booking date, and charge text.
  5. If the record is missing or the result may be stale, call the jail at 620-223-2380 for current custody, bond, charges, and case-number checks.
  6. Check the 48 Hour Release list if the person may have left custody during the prior two days.

Note: A current roster entry is a custody record, not proof of conviction.

Bourbon County Roster Fields

The Bourbon County jail roster has fewer search fields than many statewide tools, but it has useful roster controls. The research capture found name search, current and released tabs, sort links, profile links, and pagination. It did not expose a separate booking-number search box or housing filter. The best approach is to search by name, then use the visible booking number and profile details for follow-up calls or records requests.

Bourbon County Inmate Profiles

A public Bourbon County inmate profile is brief. It is useful for confirming that the person is the right match, but it is not a full criminal-history report. The inspected sample profile showed the name as the page heading, a mugshot, a booking number, age, gender, race, arresting agency, booking date and time, and charge text. It did not show full date of birth, address, height, weight, housing unit, next court date, warrant number, case number, or a judge.

The profile image is helpful for visual matching, while the booking number and date are better for records staff and court follow-up.

Bourbon County Custody Channels

Bourbon County has several official or government-run access paths. They are not interchangeable. The sheriff roster is for current county jail custody and the 48-hour release list. The jail phone is the verification channel for live custody, correct bail, charges, and case numbers. In-person questions route to the sheriff and jail building, but public counter hours are office hours, not the full rhythm of jail operations. A written records request is the backup for records that are not visible online.

Bourbon County Jail vs KASPER

County jail custody and state prison custody use different systems. A person arrested in Bourbon County may first appear on the sheriff roster while awaiting court, serving a short local sentence, held on a warrant, or held for another agency. If that person is later sentenced to Kansas Department of Corrections custody, the county roster may stop being the right place to search. The KASPER offender population search is the official Kansas DOC locator for location and status after state transfer.

KDOC says KASPER can be used to check a resident's location and status and is updated daily excluding weekends. Its disclaimer also warns that KASPER is not a complete criminal history and that an offender should not be arrested solely on the displayed information. Federal and immigration custody are separate again: use the BOP inmate locator for federal sentenced prisoners and ICE ODLS for immigration detainees.

Bourbon County Jail Facility

The single detention facility identified in the facility map is the Bourbon County Jail / Bourbon County Sheriff's Office Kansas Detention Center. It is operated by the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Bill Martin is identified on the official administration page, and jail administration records identify Major Bobby Reed and Administrative Assistant Ashley Heckman-Rodriguez. Official sources did not publish a rated bed capacity, so roster counts should be treated as dated public snapshots, not capacity numbers.

Bourbon County Booking Process

Official Bourbon County pages do not publish a full intake manual. The roster and jail pages support a narrower description. After arrest by the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office, Fort Scott Police, another local agency, or on a warrant, the person may be transported to the Bourbon County jail. The jail creates a booking record with a booking number and booking date. A booking photo and basic demographic fields may appear on the public roster after processing.

Booking information can lag or change. Charge text can start as a warrant, sanction, domestic battery, drug charge, other agency hold, or other booking label, then later differ from the formal court case. Bond can also change after a first appearance or later court order. The jail's own profile warning tells bond companies and people posting bail to contact the jail for the correct bail amount, charges, and case numbers.

Bourbon County Records Requests

When the roster does not answer the question, the records path depends on who holds the record. The sheriff Evidence/Records Custodian page identifies Ann Clarkson as Evidence Custodian and Records Custodian, with email aclarkson@bourboncountyks.org and phone 620-223-1440 option 3. The county open-records page identifies the County Clerk as the designated Kansas Open Records Act contact for county records, with phone 620-223-3800 x100. The county says written requests are preferred to make the request clear, and a form is available but not required.

Kansas agencies must act on records requests as soon as possible and no later than the end of the third business day after receipt, but that does not mean every record is released. K.S.A. 45-221 lists records that are not required to be disclosed, including criminal-investigation records. For a jail booking photo, incident material, or standard arrest report that is not online, ask for the specific record, give the name and booking date if known, and ask for the legal basis if access is denied.

Bourbon County Jail Visits

Bourbon County's inspected visitation and communication page says all visits, messaging, emails, Chirping, and phone time are handled online through InmateSales. The official source did not publish a public day-by-day in-person visiting schedule. Because the vendor account controls scheduling, a user should confirm availability through the account and call the jail if custody status or schedule access is unclear.

Bourbon County Mail and Money

Friends and family mail does not go to the Fort Scott jail address. Non-legal mail must be addressed with the inmate name and inmate ID to Bourbon County Jail, P.O. Box 76550, Highland Heights, KY 41076. Legal mail still goes to Bourbon County Jail, Attn: Inmate Name, 293 E. 20th St., Fort Scott, KS 66701. The sheriff mail page says noncompliant mail may be destroyed, and photos are the only permitted enclosures, limited to 10 photographs per package on photo paper.

The official commissary page says online commissary purchasing is no longer an option. Money can be placed on an inmate's books through the kiosk in the foyer at 293 E. 20th St. Phone money is handled through InmateSales, but the sheriff page did not publish vendor fee amounts. The Bourbon County KS Sheriff app is another official mobile channel. Its Google Play listing says it provides public information for inmates, most wanted individuals, press releases, contact, and crime tips; no app-only inmate field was verified.
